Quilting Cousin’s BOTM Program
Quilts finish 50”x 60” and 67”x 67”

General details of the Quilting Cousin’s Block-of-the-Month Program include:
  • The BOTM program includes the directions for Abigail’s Sampler Quilt, Ruth Ann’s Sampler Quilt and Barbara Jean’s Sampler Quilt. Each participant receives enlarged color images of the quilts and the cutting and sewing directions for all 3 setting arrangements.
  • Abigail’s quilt finishes 50”x 60”. Ruth Ann’s quilt and Barbara Jean’s quilt finish 67”x 67”.
  • Ruth Ann and Barbara Jean’s quilt utilize the same setting arrangement with the exception of the center medallion block. Ruth Ann’s quilt highlights an applique block while Barbara Jean’s center section is machine pieced. Quilters who love to applique can make the applique block while a star block can be machine pieced. (The star block is easily sewn and requires no set-in seams.)
  • The program offers 3 color schemes for the blocks and quilts. Select the color scheme/s that best suits your needs. The availability to include a 4th color scheme is included within the pattern directions for the blocks.
  • Abigail and Ruth Ann’s quilt use reproduction style prints in red, gold, blue, green, brown, black and cream. The quilts were designed with the intention the sampler blocks could easily be made from fabric on your store shelves thus reducing the amount of fabric you would have to order specifically for the program. When providing fabric kits for the blocks, 1 fabric kit could easily work for both quilts. Abigail’s border is also made from scraps of fabric.
  • Barbara Jean’s quilt features a monochromatic color scheme of cream, brown and black. The quilt could easily be done in any monochromatic color scheme.
  • The program is intended to meet 12 times to make the 12 sampler blocks for the quilt. The blocks finish 10”x 10”. The sampler blocks and setting arrangements are appropriate for quilters of all skill levels who have basic quilting knowledge.
  • To encourage attendance, the patterns for the blocks are written and printed individually to distribute throughout the program (along with a fabric kit for each block). Each monthly block pattern includes a diagram of the block, cutting directions, charts for the 3 color options and 4 to 5 diagrams on how to sew the block. The sewing diagrams include pressing arrows, step-by-step illustrations and squaring up measurements during each step of the sewing process.
  • Also included in the program, the participants receive a letter of introduction to the program, general cutting and sewing directions for the sampler blocks, three 8½”x 11” color images of the original quilts, directions for the 3 setting arrangements for the quilts and a pattern bag to store their copies of the pattern.
  • The Shop Copy includes suggestions for operating the program, enlarged color images of the quilts and sampler blocks, useful information concerning fabric selection, yardage requirements for the sampler blocks and finishing kits, cutting directions and charts to kit the sampler blocks, cutting directions for the finishing kits and posters to advertise the program.
  • The wholesale price for each BOTM program pattern is $8.00 for each person participating in the program for the entire year. The cost includes all of the directions to make 3 quilts. A minimum purchase of 25 BOTM patterns is required for the initial program order. Additional copies of the program pattern may be purchased after the initial order for participants joining the program late. The cost of shipping is included in the purchase price except for international customers who pay a portion of the shipping.
  • A discount is available with an order of 50 or more program patterns. However, the patterns must be ordered at the same time to qualify for the discount. Each pattern would cost $6.00 for each person in the program for the entire year. Subsequent orders of less than 50 program patterns are available at the discounted price.
  • To ensure print quality, I do the pattern printing for the participants. All pages for the entire program arrive in the first shipment. For ease of distribution throughout the year, the pattern pages for the blocks, setting directions and color images are printed and packaged separately.
  • Individual patterns are available for shops considering the program. However, there is a significant difference between the individual patterns and the BOTM program patterns. The individual patterns include a smaller color image of the quilt and 12 to 16 pages of directions to make 1 quilt. The sewing directions include 1 diagram on how to sew each block. The directions do not include pressing arrows or squaring up measurements. The BOTM program pattern includes 44 pages of directions to make 3 quilts and 3 enlarged color images of the quilts. The sewing directions have been significantly improved to include 4 to 5 sewing diagrams, pressing arrows and squaring up measurements throughout the sewing process for each block. The program pattern also includes directions for kitting the blocks and quilts for the program coordinator.
  • The individual patterns are primarily offered to assist shops in determining if the program is right for them. Consider purchasing an individual pattern, make the quilt and decide if you wish to proceed with the program knowing there is a significant difference in the BOTM printing. If you wish to purchase a single copy of the Shop Copy (which does not entitle you to photocopy the pages for the participants), the prepaid cost is $250.00, which will be applied to your first order for the participant’s patterns.
  • Expect a 1-week delivery from the order date.
Please email or telephone Lori Smith at (320) 252-5638 with any questions about the BOTM program or to place an order.
