Honoring our Quilting Heritage BOTM Program
Quilt finishes 59¾”x 79½”

General details of the Honoring our Quilting Heritage Block-of-the-Month Program include:
  • When setting up the BOTM program for the quilt, every effort was made to make the program fairly easy to host especially considering the complexity of the quilt. The program is set up so fat quarters and fat eighths are used to kit the blocks. The color scheme for the BOTM program is the same as the original quilt.
  • The BOTM program is intended to meet 15 times to make the 59 - 6”x 6” sampler blocks to create the Honoring our Quilting Heritage quilt finishing 59¾”x 79½”. The sampler blocks are divided into 15 sets with 3 blocks in Set 1 and 4 blocks in Sets 2-15. Additional meetings can be hosted to finish the quilt. The program is appropriate for quilters with a good understanding of basic quilting techniques.
  • At the start of the program, participants receive a pattern bag containing the pattern cover with a color image of the finished quilt and 3 pages of enlarged color images of the sampler blocks. The participants receive 10 pages of general instructions for making the blocks and directions for finishing the quilt. An introductory letter is also included in the pattern bag outlining the BOTM program. The fabric kits and patterns for the sampler blocks are distributed throughout the program.
  • Directions to kit the blocks for each set are included with the Shop Copy. To assist in kitting the blocks, each set contains blocks that utilize similar colors and fabrics. The kits include the fabrics to make the assigned blocks with fabric remaining. Set 1 requires 6 fat quarters, which is more than enough fabric to make the blocks. Set 2 requires 4 fat quarters to make the blocks plus the remaining fabric from Set 1. Set 3 introduces 4 more fat quarters plus the use of the remaining fabric from Sets 1-2. The program is progressive whereas fabric is added to the sets when new colors are required to make the current blocks. Due to the scrappy nature of the quilt, the remaining fabrics from previous kits finish the blocks. Ultimately, 37 fat quarters (including 12 background fabrics) and 8 fat eighths are required for the sampler blocks. Starting with Set 12, the participants begin to receive the fabrics to finish the quilt. The blocks for Sets 12-15 use the remaining fabric from Sets 1-11. The total amount of fabric required for each quilt is 15½ yards including the sashing, border and binding. The amount of work and time involved to kit the sets of blocks is greatly reduced when operating the program in this manner.
  • The Shop Copy includes assistance in selecting the fabrics for the quilt, calculating yardage for the program, kitting the sets of blocks and suggestions for operating the program. 15 pages of enlarged color images of the blocks are also included along with posters to advertise the BOTM program.
  • The BOTM pattern for the participants is written very similar to the regular pattern however the sampler blocks are divided into 15 sets and the participants receive 3 pages of enlarged color images of the sampler blocks. When considering the program, review the regular pattern printing to see if the quilt is appropriate for your needs.
  • The wholesale price for each BOTM program pattern is $7.00 for each person participating in the program for the entire year. The cost includes all of the directions to make the quilt. A minimum purchase of 25 BOTM patterns is required for the initial program order. Additional copies of the program pattern may be purchased after the initial order for participants joining the program late. The cost of shipping is included in the purchase price except for international customers who pay a portion of the shipping.
  • If you wish to purchase a single copy of the Shop Copy (which does not entitle you to photocopy the pages for the participants), the prepaid cost is $250.00, which will be applied to your first order for the participant’s patterns.
  • The Shop Copy and patterns for the entire program arrive in the first shipment. Monthly shipments are not available. An introductory letter to the participants, the color images of the blocks and quilt, general directions to make the quilt and the cutting and sewing directions to set the quilt arrive in individual pattern bags for each participant and are intended to be distributed during the start of the program. The patterns for the sampler blocks arrive in separate bags to distribute throughout the program. (All of the patterns for Set 1 arrive in one bag, the patterns for Set 2 are placed in another bag, etc.) All of the printing for the program patterns is done for you and arrives in the first shipment.
  • Expect a 1-week delivery from the order date except during Spring and Fall Quilt Market.
Please email or telephone Lori Smith at (320) 252-5638 with any questions about the BOTM program or to place an order.
